Senior Front-end Web Developer @ Newfront

21 Oct, 2019
(Contractor - Remote OK) Newfront is looking for an experienced front-end engineer to help us build a fresh new marketing site for our company. This is a 1-3 month contract position with the possibility to extend the contract or join our team longer-term when the project concludes. We’re looking to kick things off around October 15th.  Our HQ is in San Francisco, but we welcome remote contractors based anywhere in the world. We are looking for candidates who share our passion and belief that the best technology is simple, beautiful, accessible, and usable. Using modern front-end technology (e.g. CSS-in-JS, React, Next.js, GraphQL) and tools (e.g. Framer, Figma) we expect front-end engineers to fully represent users' needs and uphold product quality through close partnership with product, design, and user research.

What you'll work on

We’re currently working on a brand new homepage (replacing The project is a collaboration between our marketing and product teams here at HQ. We’ve got a great designer working on fleshed out mockups and the front-engineer will work off detailed designs and develop a fully functioning and responsive website that will delight our customers and make our 200+ member team proud.  We currently have a Sitemap that will give you a sense of the scope and features. As we move forward with this project we’ll be able to share more design details and wireframes with you.  We expect you to use industry best practices and build our site from scratch using HTML, CSS, Javascript (React), and integrate a headless CMS (possibly prismic or contentful) to empower our marketing team to edit select content. While you’ll take direction from our engineering team and designers, we expect the candidate to take ownership over the project and produce high quality code with attention to the details from load-times, to kerning.

  • 5+ years of front-end engineering and/or work related industry experience. You have previous success developing and shipping quality websites and web applications with a user-empathetic mindset
  • You care about industry best practices: You understand which features can be used across the various browsers, you understand how to make a website accessible, and you know how to implement responsive design.
  • You have an understanding of interaction design: You're able to understand why particular interactions should be used and when. You're able to recommend particular UI patterns to solve user problems and understand the trade-offs.
  • You care about the tiny details. You notice when elements are off by 1 or 2 pixels and it will eat at you until you fix it. You're aware that loss of quality is often death by a thousand cuts.
